About TIFF to PNG conversion

TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) was created in 1986 by Aldus Corporation (now Adobe) and is the gold standard for professional photography, print publishing, and archival preservation. TIFF files use lossless compression, preserve every pixel exactly, and support up to 48-bit color depth. A single TIFF can be dramatically larger than other formats — a 4K photo saved as TIFF can exceed 50 MB.

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) was created in 1996 and is universally supported across every browser, operating system, design application, and email client. PNG also uses lossless compression, so no quality is lost when converting TIFF to PNG. The main benefit is compatibility: TIFF is professional-grade but not universally readable, while PNG opens anywhere.

Why Convert TIFF to PNG?

TIFF files are problematic outside professional workflows. Web browsers cannot display TIFF natively. Most email clients reject TIFF attachments over certain sizes. Many CMS platforms and image galleries don't accept TIFF uploads. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint cannot insert TIFF images without conversion. If you've ever tried to share a TIFF photo on social media or upload it to a website and hit an error, this is why.

TIFF vs TIF — Same Format

TIF and TIFF are the exact same image format. TIFF uses four letters, TIF uses three — just like JPEG and JPG. Windows systems historically truncated extensions to three characters, which is why TIF exists. Every modern application treats .tif and .tiff as interchangeable. This converter handles both.

How to Convert TIFF to PNG

Upload your TIFF or TIF file using the tool on this page. The converter processes it server-side and provides a download link instantly. Batch conversion is supported — upload your entire folder of TIFF files at once (200 MB per file) and download all converted PNGs together. No signup, no software installation, no file limits.

Quality Preservation

Because both TIFF and PNG use lossless compression, converting between them introduces zero quality loss. Every pixel is preserved exactly. The resulting PNG is pixel-for-pixel identical to the original TIFF, and because PNG is also lossless, you can edit, re-save, and archive it without any further degradation.

Files are processed securely on our servers and automatically deleted after 1 hour.
