About BMP to PDF conversion

BMP (Bitmap Image File) was introduced by Microsoft in 1987 with Windows 2.0. It stores image data uncompressed or with simple lossless compression — producing very large files. BMP was the default format for Microsoft Paint and early Windows applications.

PDF (Portable Document Format) was created by Adobe in 1993 and is the universal document format. Every operating system, printer, and document management system accepts PDF.

Why Convert BMP to PDF?

BMP files are problematic outside legacy Windows software. They are not universally supported on modern systems. Email clients often reject BMP attachments due to file size. Many modern image tools cannot open BMP without a plugin. Converting to PDF solves both the size and compatibility problem in one step.

The Dual Benefit

Converting BMP to PDF provides two wins: 1. **Compatibility** — PDF is universally accepted 2. **File size** — PDF typically produces files 5-20x smaller than the original BMP because it uses more efficient image encoding

Quality

The BMP image is embedded into the PDF at its original resolution. Since BMP is uncompressed, the source data is preserved exactly. The resulting PDF is a compact, universally shareable document with full image fidelity.

Common Use Cases

BMP files often come from legacy Windows sources — Paint, older screenshot tools, and business applications that save scans as BMP. When you need to submit one of these files to a modern portal, converting to PDF is the correct move.

Files are processed securely and automatically deleted after 1 hour. No signup required.

BMP uses lossy compression; PDF uses lossless. Converting won't restore lost detail, but it prevents further quality degradation during editing and archiving.
